Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - IMF Report.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

393 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Finance if he has received the latest IMF report on the Irish economy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21223/03]

The latest assessment of the Irish economy by the board of the International Monetary Fund was published on 6 August 2003. I note the IMF's balanced and positive assessment of Ireland's economic policies and prospects. I agree with the board's view that the likelihood of slower growth in the period ahead requires us to get our prices and cost increases more in line with our EU partners in order to improve our competitive position. In this way we can best support and sustain our domestic employment base.
