Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teachers' Remuneration.

Finian McGrath

Question:

486 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will investigate a query (details supplied) and provide a detailed response in this regard. [19939/03]

My Department, in the context of improving customer service to teachers, decided to introduce revised cheque and payslip stationary for primary teachers in August 2003. This development had the support of the teacher union and management authorities. The new payslip is laid out in a format that is much more legible than the old payslip and the introduction of pressure sealing provided enhanced security and confidentiality. The new payslip was introduced with the upgrading of the computer system.

In view of the changes to the payslip stationery, it was decided to issue a leaflet to primary teachers to inform them of the changes. Informing teachers of the changes to the new payslip facilitated a smooth transition to the new arrangements. The cost of printing the information leaflet was €6,994 including value added tax. Overall, my Department has received a favourable response from teachers to the introduction of the new payslip.
