Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

487 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education and Science his plans to provide a new primary school in the Stepaside-Ballyogan area of County Dublin; the status of these plans; the timescale for building the new school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19942/03]

A need has been identified for the provision of an additional primary school in the Gallops/Ballyogan area and the local authority has reserved a site for this purpose in the Stepaside action area plan. Negotiations commenced last year between the Office of Public Works and the owners to acquire the site. However, it was not possible to make provision for the purchase of the site in the context of the 2003 capital programme. The matter will be considered again for inclusion in the 2004 programme.

In addition, a formal notification of intention to apply for the recognition of a school in the Glenbourne-Ballyogan area was received from the Dublin archdiocese in October 2002. However, due to the unavailability of a site, the archdiocese decided not to proceed with the application this year.
