Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level Charges.

Michael Ring

Question:

536 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science if the situation which has arisen in relation to registration fees having to be paid to colleges by the second week of September 2003 will be rectified, in view of the fact that the closing date for higher level grants is 29 August 2003. [20200/03]

The day-to-day activities of the third level institutions, including the setting of dates for the payment of registration fees, are operational matters for which the governing body and the management staff of the institutions are responsible.

My Department understands that, in general, where grant applicants provide confirmation that they have applied for grant assistance under one of my Department's third level maintenance grant schemes they may be given a period of grace in relation to the payment of the charge in respect of student services, registration and examinations.
