I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy. An application for special needs assistant support and resource teaching hours was made by the school. The application was reviewed by the national educational psychological service and the school was advised that special needs assistant support was approved. Following a review of the speech and language report submitted, the application for resource teaching hours was not approved as the pupil in question does not meet the criteria under the terms of my Department's circular 08/02.
