Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

585 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will again examine a school bus transport matter in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [20473/03]

In the case of amalgamations, pupils residing in a closed school area may be deemed eligible for transport to the school of amalgamation only. Parish boundaries have no bearing on a pupils transport entitlement. The pupil to whom the Deputy refers lives in a closed school area, which amalgamated with another school in the area, and is eligible for transport to that school only. However, there is no service to the amalgamated school on which the pupil can be accommodated. In the circumstances, the pupil may be allowed concessionary fare-paying transport on the service to the school in question without the agreement of the school authorities of the amalgamated school. In the event that the family hold a valid financial medical card the concessionary fare of €26 per term may be waived.
