Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John McGuinness

Question:

596 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if an application from the Presentation secondary school, Kilkenny, for a special needs secondary teacher will be approved for a person (details supplied); when the application was lodged; when a decision is likely; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20559/03]

An application for additional resource teacher support in respect of the student in question was received in my Department on 26 June 2003. Applications for special support services are referred to the national educational psychological service, NEPS, for consideration and recommendation as to the nature and level of special support required in each case. The application in question has been referred to the NEPS for consideration and a response is currently awaited. My Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as the response from the NEPS has been received and considered.
