Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

790 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the reasons a project submitted by a group (details supplied) in Tralee, County Kerry, for national lottery funding, was unsuccessful; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21017/03]

The national lottery-funded sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, allocates funding to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country.

All applications under the 2003 sports capital programme were evaluated by my Department in accordance with the assessment criteria for the programme published in the guidelines, terms and conditions document which accompanied the application form for the programme. Following completion of the evaluation of the applications received by my Department under the programme, I announced provisional grant allocations on July 25 and August 29 last.

The application in question was unsuccessful and a letter advising the organisation accordingly together with a copy of the assessment carried out on the application, including any specific reasons for the application being unsuccessful, was issued to the organisation on August 6 2003.

It is open to the organisation, should it wish to do so and should it have a project which satisfies the terms and conditions of the programme, to submit an application to the 2004 sports capital programme when that scheme is publicly advertised.
