Written Answers. - Medical Charges.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

894 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that persons (details supplied) in Dublin 10 have been told that there will be a charge of ?10 per treatment; if this charge will be withdrawn; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20144/03]

Arrangements for the provision of services for medical card holders, including chiropody, are a matter for the health boards to decide, having regard to their priorities within their funding allocations. My Department has been made aware of the practice of some chiropodists who have been levying their medical card patients. Accordingly, this case has been referred to the regional chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority for investigation and direct reply to the Deputy.
