Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Investigation of Hospital Death.

Michael Ring

Question:

1020 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will sanction a full independent investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of a person (details supplied) in Tullamore Hospital. [21282/03]

The Midland Health Board commissioned an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a patient in the Midland Regional Hospital at Tullamore. My Department is advised that the draft report of the review team into this case was presented to the family of the deceased at a meeting on 12 May 2003 following which the family indicated certain reservations.

My Department is further advised that the board has addressed these reservations and has offered to meet with the family again to discuss the matters raised and a response is awaited from the family in this regard.
