1040 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Transport if he has received correspondence from a person (details supplied) in County Sligo; if he will address the concerns raised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19886/03]

Michael Ring

Question:

1048 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Transport the reason a company (details supplied) was paid under the PSO after it had gone out of business. [20074/03]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 1040 and 1048 together.

The airline in question provided air services under a PSO contract, which commenced in July 2002. The contract was terminated on 22nd January 2003, but moneys remained owing to the airline for services provided up to that date. My Department consulted its legal advisors in connection with these outstanding sums and final payment to the airline was made in early March 2003, in accordance with the Department's contractual arrangements with the airline. A reply to correspondence from a director of the hotel company, in which concerns about payments to the airline were raised, issued from my office on 13 May 2003.
