Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Denis Naughten

Question:

1056 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport the reason for changing the format of the driving test report; his views on whether this makes the decision for failing the test less transparent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20231/03]

The driving test report was amended as a customer service initiative to make the report more easily understood by driving test candidates. The new report was introduced in February 2002 on a phased basis and generally has been positively received. The report grades faults according to their seriousness under various headings and aspects of driving. The report is also used by driver testers as a marking sheet, and faults are recorded as they occur during the test. The revised report provides more information in relation to the actual driving fault in respect of which a fault is marked. Pass or failure is dependent on the number and type of faults incurred which are clearly indicated on the report sheet.
