Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Community Policing Fora.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

1159 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding funding for a co-ordinator for a project (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20160/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the Garda community relations section are aware of the application for funding for a co-ordinator for the "A" District Policing Fora – includes Rialto Policing Forum.

The original community policing forum, which came into operation in 2000 on a pilot basis, did not make provision for a co-ordinator. However, following on an independent evaluation of the forum, the provision of a co-ordinator was raised. This matter is currently under consideration.

A number of meetings have taken place between staff in the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the Garda Community Relations and Assistant Commissioner Strategy and Services. No final decision has been made at this time.
