Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rent Subsidies.

Conor Lenihan

Question:

1245 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the timescale he envisages for the conclusion of his review of the operation of the rent subsidy scheme; and the direction the interdepartmental review is taking on the matter. [20120/03]

The review of rental assistance arrangements is substantially complete and I hope to be in a position to bring proposals to Government at an early date to enable decisions to be taken on future arrangements in this area. The main objectives will be to reduce dependence on SWA rent supplementation as a response to long-term housing need and to enhance the role of local authorities in this regard as well as improving liaison arrangements between the agencies involved.
