Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Family Support Services.

John McGuinness

Question:

1367 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if financial assistance will be given by the South Eastern Health Board to the family of a person (details supplied) to cover the funeral costs from the United Kingdom in view of the exceptional circumstances of the case. [20427/03]

The supplementary welfare allowance scheme which is administered on behalf of my Department by the health boards provides for a once-off payment to be made in respect of exceptional expenses which an individual could not reasonably be expected to cater for from his or her own resources.

The family in question has been in contact with the local health board. Further information is awaited before a decision can be made by the board in this case.
