Vol. 571 No. 2

Written Answers. - Irish Language Usage.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

320 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if the comprehensive study of the current status of the Irish language in the media has been undertaken; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21350/03]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 117 of 25 June 2003. As I stated in that reply, I have no statutory responsibility in relation to the media. However, the Government remains committed to increasing both the quantity and the quality of Irish language broadcasting nationwide. The progress report on An Agreed Programme for Government for the period June 2002-June 2003 outlines a number of relevant issues.
