Vol. 571 No. 2

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

163 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs when the Government expects to receive the report of the inquiry being carried out by Mr. Justice Peter Cory into allegations that some members of the security forces in the Republic and in Northern Ireland may have co-operated with terrorist organisations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21081/03]

Brian O'Shea

Question:

194 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the response he has received from the British authorities to the Government's call for a public inquiry into the circumstances of the murder of a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21080/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 163 and 194 together.

I have been informed that the judge has now completed his examination into allegations of collusion in six controversial cases and is in the process of finalising his reports. Judge Cory intends to submit the four reports falling within British jurisdiction to the British Government and the remaining two to the Government on 7 October. It is a mark of the judge's dedication and hard work that the reports have been completed so expeditiously. We look forward to receiving the reports and, after appropriate consideration, will publish them as soon as possible thereafter. As agreed at Weston Park, both Governments are committed to the full implementation of the judge's terms of reference.
