Vol. 571 No. 2

Written Answers. - EU Affairs.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

196 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if there will be an EU-Russia summit during Ireland's EU Presidency in 2004. [21125/03]

In line with standard practice, an EU-Russia summit will be held during the Irish Presidency next year. My officials are discussing with the Russian side suitable dates for this summit, which it will be Russia's turn to host, during Ireland's Presidency. A presidential election is due to be held in Russia in March 2004, so the EU-Russia summit during the Irish Presidency will be a first opportunity to discuss issues of common concern with a president who will have a mandate to lead Russia until 2008.
