Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

142 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science if a site for a new primary school has been reserved by his Department in Fortunestown, west Tallaght; the process for acquisition of the site; the timeframe for this; and the steps involved in decisions relating to setting up a new school in the area. [21688/03]

Officials from the school planning section of my Department meet on a regular basis with the planning department of South Dublin County Council with a view to identifying the need for additional educational provision and reserving sites for schools where it is deemed necessary.

Arising from this process, a site for primary school purposes has been reserved at Fortunestown in west Tallaght. A decision on the provision of a new school in this area will involve further consultations with the local authority regarding the rate and likely timescale of housing developments, together with an ongoing assessment of the capacity of existing schools in the area to meet the anticipated demand.
