Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Statements.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

184 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools which have a health and safety statement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21790/03]

The Health and Safety Authority is the body with national responsibility for health and safety matters in the workplace.

Under health and safety legislation school managerial authorities, in their role as employers, are responsible for providing a safe environment for all personnel present in the school. This duty requires the drawing up of a safety statement for the school. Consequently, it is incumbent on all schools to have such a statement.
