Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - Youth Services.

David Stanton

Question:

199 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress in the appointment of the assessor of youth work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21806/03]

Section 16 of the Youth Work Act 2001 provides for the appointment of an assessor of youth work and this has been identified as a priority action for 2003 by my Department.

A sub-committee of the National Youth Work Advisory Committee, which was appointed under sections 17 and 18 of that Act to advise me on youth work and youth work policy, is currently providing advice to me in relation to the guidelines, regulations, etc., necessary for the further phased implementation of the Youth Work Act 2001, which includes the appointment of an assessor of youth work. As part of its ongoing work, this sub-committee is currently drawing up a job description for an assessor of youth work who will carry out the required functions in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Work Act 2001. My Department will commence the recruitment process when the job description is finalised.
