Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

247 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Transport if he will report on contacts with the Railway Procurement Agency in respect of the need to plan for adequate parking arrangements in respect of the Luas line to the Square-Tallaght town centre; if his attention has been drawn to the concerns being generated by the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21739/03]

Proposals for the provision of park and ride facilities on the Luas Tallaght line were incorporated in the plans that accompanied the light railway order application made in respect of Luas line A in 1998. The proposals were considered at the line A public inquiry on foot of which a light railway order was made.

I understand from the RPA that there will be a park and ride facility which will accommodate 450 cars adjacent to the Tallaght stop, serving Tallaght Square-Town Centre. These car spaces will be provided as part of the development of the former CIE site alongside the Square-Town Centre.

I understand from the RPA that ongoing discussions are taking place between the developer and the planning authority with a view to having this facility available as soon as possible.
