Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Civil Service Recruitment.

Martin Ferris

Question:

247 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Finance when it is intended to appoint persons from the approximately 9,000 who sat the exam for clerical officers, provincial competition, in March 2003. [22251/03]

A competition to set up panels for the appointment of clerical officers to provincial locations was advertised by the Civil Service Commissioners in March 2003. The commissioners have stated that 8,604 candidates applied for this competition; 4,682 were tested in April, and 2,344 passed these tests. As a result, panels have been set up for 16 locations around the country, and since May 2003, a total of 26 people have been appointed.

The commissioners are notified of vacancies according as they arise and a small number of candidates from each panel are then interviewed to fill these vacancies. There are no vacancies to be filled in provincial locations. The commissioners are keeping the position under review.
