Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Railway Stations.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

460 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Transport the position regarding the proposal to reopen Dunleer railway station, County Louth. [22407/03]

Iarnród Éireann has informed me that it has examined the case for reopening Dunleer station on a number of occasions in the past. A review of the Dublin suburban rail strategy, conducted on behalf of the company, concluded that the station would have modest daily boarding numbers but could be linked to development proposals to boost potential demand.

I understand that a new development plan has been agreed for Dunleer which proposes population growth for the village. In light of this, Iarnród Éireann recently met with local elected representatives in Dunleer and agreed to re-examine the potential for a station when details of the new development are made available to them.
