Vol. 572 No. 1

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Billy Timmins

Question:

182 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if there are grants available to build or buy a new house; if a new scheme has been put in place to replace the first time buyer's grant; and if not, his plans to introduce a scheme to assist first time buyers with their first home. [22500/03]

The termination of the new house grant scheme was a difficult decision that the Government was required to take in order to ensure a sustainable match between Government resources and expenditure. In this context, the termination of the scheme was effected in order to allow re-prioritisation of this budget provision to other housing and social programmes.

It is not proposed to replace this scheme or to reintroduce the grant.
