Vol. 572 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Appointments.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

77 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the number of women on the State boards and agencies under the auspices of his Department; the boards on which they sit; the number of women appointed to these bodies since he became Minister; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22197/03]

I am circulating the information requested by the Deputy as a tabular statement.

I am fully aware of the Government requirement that there should be a minimum of 40% of women among the members of State boards, apart from members appointed on the nomination of outside bodies.

I am happy to say that the total number of women appointed by me to State boards since becoming Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism is 28, which is 39.4% of all appointments. I fully intend, in so far as is practicable, to endeavour to ensure that among the members of all State bodies under the aegis of my Department there is an equitable balance between men and women.
