Vol. 572 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

James Breen

Question:

123 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Finance if he will act immediately to get a process (details supplied) in County Clare under way; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22485/03]

The Deputy will be aware that I set up a review group to carry out a major review of national flooding policy last November. I initiated this review in order to develop a cohesive national flooding policy and to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the various agencies involved, including the Office of Public Works. The final report of the review group is due for completion in the next few weeks and will contain recommendations on the preferred approach to flood management, including criteria for the prioritisation of expenditure. In the circumstances, the Office of Public Works considers it prudent to await the completion of the review groups work before deciding how the proposed scheme for Ennis might be progressed.
