Vol. 572 No. 1

Written Answers. - VEC Submission.

John Cregan

Question:

133 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Education and Science if consideration will be given to the submission by a group (details supplied); and when a decision is likely to be given to the request. [22475/03]

The submission referred to by the Deputy was received by my Department in September 2003. The proposal it contains falls within the remit of County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee in the first instance. My Department received a similar outline proposal from the VEC in April 2000. The VEC was then informed that when my Department is satisfied that a property is surplus to requirements sanction may be given for its disposal in accordance with circular 7/88. The VEC was also informed that section 2 of the Vocational Education (Amendment) Act 1936 empowers a VEC to sell or lease property only at the market value.

No further details have been received from County Kilkenny VEC with regard to this proposal. Accordingly, the submission from the Enterprise Group has been referred to that VEC for its consideration.
