Vol. 572 No. 2

Written Answers. - Price Inflation.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

84 Mr. O'Connor asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the huge public concern regarding the continued increases in the price of concert tickets, including fees; the powers open to her deal with the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22665/03]

I am aware that concerns have been expressed from time to time in relation to prices charged for admission to concerts and similar events.

While it would not be appropriate or practical to regulate the prices charged for concert tickets, it is important that consumers are aware of the full price they will be charged.

Regulatory action has been taken under SI 103/1997 to prescribe certain minimum information relating to price, which must be contained in advertisements for public concerts and theatre performances. This relates particularly to the indication of the admission price and any additional charges which may be payable.

If the Deputy has information on practices which mislead consumers I would appreciate receiving it so that appropriate action can be taken.
