Vol. 572 No. 4

Written Answers. - Court Procedures.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

194 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when, and how, he intends to bring in measures to modify the in camera rule in family law cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23526/03]

The civil liability and courts Bill will include a provision to amend the in camera rule in family law cases. I hope to publish the Bill during this session. Pending Government approval for the circulation of the Bill, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the manner in which it is proposed to amend the existing legislation except to say that, as promised in An Agreed Programme for Government, the new provision will allow for general reporting of overall trends while continuing to respect the privacy of all those involved.
