Vol. 572 No. 4

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ring – to ask what assistance will be made available immediately from the Office of Public Works to help the people affected by the recent landslides in north Mayo, what compensation package will be put in place towards the private property of the residents and farmers, and if the Office of Public Works has assessed the damage done to private property; (2) Deputy Costello – the need for the Government to intervene and help to save the Cricklewood Homeless Centre in London, a refuge for homeless and addicted Irish people in Britain which is being sold by the Diocese of Westminster; (3) Deputy Morgan – the necessity for the Minister to ensure, in light of the facts contained in the recently published Housing Statistics Bulletin, that appropriate accommodation is provided for the differing sizes of family units and specifically to put in place a strategy to end the unacceptable situation where it is virtually impossible for single people, particularly single males, to be housed by local authorities; (4) Deputy Breeda Moynihan-Cronin – the need for urgent refurbishment and repairs at Lauragh national school, Killarney, County Kerry; (5) Deputies Durkan and Gogarty – the need for the Minister for Health and Children to intervene to preserve the chest hospital at Peamount Hospital; (6) Deputy Healy – the urgent need for the Minister to approve a staffing allocation of €3.2 million for the South-Eastern Health Board to enable the opening of the new surgical unit at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel; (7) Deputy Hayes – when the Minister will sanction a refurbishment grant for St. Ailbe's school at Rosanna Road, Tipperary town; (8) Deputy Cowley – while welcoming the publication of the expert report on radiotherapy services in Ireland, if the Minister will explain why there is not an immediate commitment to radiotherapy units for the south-east, the mid-west and cover for the north-west of Ireland; (9) Deputy Twomey – if the Minister will inform the House on the timeframe for the proposed multi-million euro investment in the radiation oncology services in light of the recent report which shows a massive deficit in our radiation oncology services; (10) Deputy Eamon Ryan – the proposal from the National Roads Authority for a €300 million upgrade of the M50 motorway network, given this project was seen as the last priority for investment in the Dublin Transportation Office plan, A Platform for Change and funding has not yet been made available for the myriad of public transport projects also proposed in the plan; (11) Deputy Sherlock – the implications for traffic and trade of the proposed closure of the freight yard at Mallow railway station; (12) Deputy McGinley – the appointment of a liquidator to the MDR factory on the Gweedore industrial estate and the loss of 40 jobs; (13) Deputy Neville – children's mental health services; (14) Deputy Connolly – the situation pertaining in rural national schools with particular reference to Knocknagrave national school, County Monaghan, where staffing is determined by the enrolment on 30 September of the previous school year; (15) Deputy Ó Snodaigh – the perceived failure of the Garda to stem or reduce anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and car theft in areas such as Rialto and the south inner city; and (16) Deputy Gregory – the policy of non-collection of household waste which has resulted in an escalating crisis in the Dublin area.

The matters raised by Deputies Durkan and Gogarty, Neville, Sherlock and Ó Snodaigh have been selected for discussion.
