Vol. 572 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Enda Kenny

Question:

97 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the costs which have accrued to his Department in respect of the remembrance commission fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19563/03]

Arising from consideration of the recommendations of the report of the Victims Commission, I have announced that the Government has approved the establishment of a remembrance fund and commission to address the needs of the victims of the conflict in Northern Ireland and their families in this jurisdiction.

The commission, membership of which I will be announcing shortly, will be charged with the administration of the remembrance fund for a three year period from the date of its commencement. The Government has approved the expenditure of €9 million from the fund over the three year lifetime of the commission.

Expenditure from the fund prior to the establishment of the commission has been a payment of €33,000 in grant assistance to the victim support group, Justice for the Forgotten.
