Vol. 572 No. 4

Written Answers. - Crime Prevention.

Seán Ryan

Question:

118 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the report from the National Crime Council, A Crime Prevention Strategy for Ireland: Tackling the Concerns of Local Communities; if it is intended to implement the recommendations in the report, particularly in regard to the establishment of local crime prevention partnerships; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23383/03]

The National Crime Council presented its wide ranging report to me on 27 June. The report contains a total of 39 recommendations which, in addition to being directed at areas for which I am responsible, are also directed at areas for which other Ministers, including the Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government, are responsible.

I am currently considering the report's recommendations. I will bring proposals to Government in due course in relation to a response to the report and its recommendations.
