Vol. 572 No. 4

Written Answers. - Job Losses.

Billy Timmins

Question:

132 Mr. Timmins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of jobs lost in County Wicklow since June 2002; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23609/03]

The number of redundancies in County Wicklow, notified to my Department from 1 June 2002 to 30 September 2003, was 638.

IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland are continuing their efforts to attract new industry to County Wicklow and to encourage the development of existing industry. At the micro-enterprise level, the Wicklow County Enterprise Board is promoting the establishment and development of small enterprises. I am confident that the combined efforts of the agencies will be successful in addressing employment in the county.
