Question:

124 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the number of search and rescue missions carried out by the north-west unit, since its establishment to date. [24699/03]

The total number of search and rescue missions carried out by the Air Corps in the north-west from 1 January 2002 to date is 555.

A breakdown of these is as follows:

Search and Rescue (SAR)

Air Ambulance

59

Island Medevac i.e evacuate from island to hospital

107

Island Relief i.e island to mainland

22

Miscellaneous i.e demonstration, pollution patrol, etc.
