Vol. 573 No. 2

Written Answers. - Home Based Subventions.

Richard Bruton

Question:

141 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the eligibility criteria and the support provided under the home based subvention schemes and personal care packages. [24638/03]

Currently, a number of health boards are running pilot personal care package schemes which include home based subventions. The introduction of home based subventions was recommended by Professor Eamon O'Shea in his expenditure review of the nursing home subvention scheme published in June 2003 and since my appointment as Minister of State I have initiated the roll-out of such home based subventions. Applications for home based subventions are considered from or on behalf of those requiring long-stay care, particularly in private nursing homes.

My Department's advice to health boards is to apply the criteria for eligibility for the nursing home subvention scheme to any applications for home based subventions.
