Question:

63 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when she proposes to adopt a policy in relation to the member state options provisions set out in regulation (EC) No. 1606/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 July 2002 on the application of the international accounting standards adopted under that regulation; the steps she intends to take in relation to these options [24494/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 40 and 63 together.

I will be in a position to adopt a formal policy in relation to the options provided for in regulation 1606/2002 on the application of international accounting standards to the annual accounts of listed companies and the application of international accounting standards to the consolidated and or annual accounts of non-listed companies when the consultation process which I have put in train on this issue has been completed and its recommendations presented to me. In advance of this and based on the information available to me at present, my inclination is that companies should be permitted to avail or not avail of all of the options in question, but without the imposition of mandatory requirements in respect of these options.
