Vol. 573 No. 2

Written Answers. - Insurance Industry.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

49 Mr. Howlin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the recent report of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business on the insurance industry; her views on the recommendations made; her plans to implement the recommendations made; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24465/03]

I welcome the report of the Joint Committee on Enterprise and Small Business on reform of the Irish insurance market. As the Deputy will be aware, I appeared before the committee and discussed the entire insurance reform programme with it. A significant number of the recommendations of the committee are in line with existing initiatives to reform the insurance market. Since the report was published, officials from my Department, the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the Department of Transport have met with the chairman of the committee to discuss how the recommendations can best be progressed.
