Vol. 573 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Gerard Murphy

Question:

93 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the position regarding a case when an official from his Department arrives on a farmer's lands unannounced and gets injured on the lands; and if the employee of his Department is covered by insurance. [24683/03]

Departments do not purchase employers' liabilities insurance policies. The State has the responsibility of meeting any legal liabilities that may arise for the Department. An owner of any land has responsibility for it and should ensure that they carry adequate public liability insurance to take into account third parties who may come onto their property.
