179 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the list of all harbours with priority status in County Donegal; and the status of Downings Harbour. [27768/03]
180 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the status of the Downings Harbour development plan; and the funding in place for future development. [27769/03]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 179 and 180 together.
Killybegs Fishery Harbour Centre, Port Arthur and Magheragallon in County Donegal are under my Department's control. All other harbours in the county are owned by Donegal County Council and responsibility for their maintenance and development rests with the local authority. This year my Department has provided €26 million for the major harbour development that is under way at Killybegs. In addition, Exchequer funding of €229,000 was made available to the council towards works at Burtonport, Buncrana, Portaleen, Portmore and Greencastle. The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has responsibility for the provision of funding in Gaeltacht areas. Donegal County Council is in the best position to supply details of the priority it attaches to harbours it owns.
181 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the funding available for the Rathmullen and Buncrana marinas for 2004. [27770/03]
In March 2002 Donegal County Council submitted an application under the marine tourism grant scheme of the national development plan for funding towards the development of berthing facilities at Rathmullan and Buncrana. As the applicant had not obtained the necessary statutory permissions, as required under the scheme, its application could not be considered further. There is no funding available for the tourism grant scheme in 2004.
