Vol. 574 No. 5

Written Answers. - Waste Disposal.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

241 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a serving member of the Garda is apparently a director of a waste company that has been caught dumping illegally and that is being prosecuted by Wicklow County Council; and the action he intends to take to address the issue. [27759/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that a Garda investigation is currently taking place concerning illegal dumping on lands at Killegar, Enniskerry, County Wicklow. The complainant in this case is Wicklow County Council.

The investigation is being carried out by members from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation in conjunction with members from the Dublin Metropolitan Region. All aspects of the case are subject to investigation, including the ownership of companies allegedly involved in illegal dumping.

A file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions at the termination of the investigation.
