Vol. 574 No. 5

Written Answers. - Crisis Pregnancy Agency.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

117 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will appoint an independent evaluator to review and oversee the work of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency in order to ensure it is equipped to carry out the tasks given to it by law. [27391/03]

The Deputy will be aware that I launched the agency's strategy for addressing the issue of crisis pregnancy last week. I met the agency's chairperson, Ms Olive Braiden, before the launch to discuss the strategy and the agency's progress in general. The main function of the agency is to provide a co-ordinating mechanism so that the efforts of all groups in the field of crisis pregnancy prevention are harnessed to maximum effect. The work of the agency is monitored by my Department and I am satisfied that it is equipped to fulfil its remit. There are no plans, therefore, to appoint an independent evaluator to review and oversee the work of the agency.
