Vol. 574 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Board Allowances.

Dan Neville

Question:

135 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason he has issued guidelines resulting in the fact that applicants can no longer qualify for both the mobility allowance and the motorised transport grant. [27394/03]

The guidelines in relation to these schemes were revised in July 2002 in accordance with recommendations by the national health board working group on disability related allowances-grants coming under the aegis of my Department. The working group discussed the question of qualification for the two schemes referred to by the Deputy and agreed that a per son should not have the opportunity to benefit from both schemes.

My Department accepted the recommendation of the working group in consultation with the Department of Finance.
