Vol. 574 No. 5

Written Answers. - Smoking Ban.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

149 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Health and Children when he expects the proposed smoking ban to be implemented; if it will be fully implemented; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27592/03]

I expect that the prohibition on smoking in enclosed places of work will come into effect by the end of February 2004. I believe that the vast majority of employers, employees and members of the public will comply with the new health measures. The primary purpose of making workplaces smoke-free is to protect people from exposure to toxic environmental tobacco smoke.
