Vol. 575 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

141 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction approval to proceed with the provision of a secondary school in Kill, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28000/03]

Kill, County Kildare, forms part of the Naas catchment area which has three postprimary schools. Following an evaluation of post-primary accommodation in that area, building projects were approved for all three schools. The long-term projected enrolment figures on which these proposed projects are based have been agreed with the school management authorities and the projects are now at various stages of architectural planning. The progress of these projects through that process will depend on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years. It is envisaged that when the projects in question are completed, there will be sufficient accommodation to meet the future needs at post-primary level in the Naas catchment area, including Kill. The planning section of my Department will, however, keep the position under review.
