21 Ms Lynch asked the Minister for Transport the nature of the investigation being held into the reported high failure rate in NCT tests; when he expects the results of the investigation to be available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27835/03]
I have been asked by Government to assess the operation of the car testing service arising from the implementation of the final phase of the NCT from 15 September 2003. The review involves analysing the failure rates for the NCT following 15 September to determine the effects of full implementation and whether the new arrangements are giving rise to any particular difficulties. The review includes monitoring the level of complaints to National Car Testing Service Limited, NCTS, and my Department in the aftermath of full implementation. I expect to be in a position to report to Government shortly.
