Question:

173 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Transport further to his commitments under the NDP to provide Dublin Bus with 80 new buses in 2004, if these commitments will be met; and the budget head under which this funding allocation is made. [27909/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 26 and 173 together.

In the last few days, my Department received an application from Dublin Bus for funding in respect of 80 new buses that the company proposes to purchase. The application is being examined at present together with all other applications for capital funding for public transport bus and rail projects in 2004.

I will decide in the coming weeks the projects which are to receive capital allocations for the next year. Any funding for new buses would be provided through subhead C5 – public transport safety and development.
