Vol. 575 No. 1

Written Answers. - Job Losses.

John Perry

Question:

92 Mr. Perry asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the rationalisation programme recent announcement by a company (details supplied) whereby up to 50 temporary employees and 25 permanent staff will be made redundant; the steps she has taken to set up a task force to find a replacement employer; if the findings will be clarified; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27925/03]

I am aware of the proposed rationalisation programme by the company in question and I understand that the programme is being implemented in order to improve its competitive position.

FÁS has already been in contact with the company and offered to make available its range of services to the workers affected with a view to finding alternative employment. The State development agencies, under the aegis of my Department, will work closely together and with local interests with a view to promoting additional investment and job creation in the Sligo area.
