Vol. 575 No. 1

Written Answers. - Passport Applications.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

119 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the reason it is not possible to download passport renewal forms from the Government's website. [27886/03]

It is not technically possible at present to provide passport application forms in downloadable format from my Department's website. This is because application forms contain a peel-off signature strip which must be signed by the applicant and later inserted, along with the applicant's photograph, into the passport.

Copies of passport forms are available from many outlets in Ireland including the passport offices in Dublin and Cork, all garda stations and most post offices, and from all Irish diplomatic and consular missions abroad. It is also possible to request copies of forms from the Department's website at www.irlgov.ie/iveaghThe new passport system which is currently being developed by my Department is being designed to facilitate the processing of on-line passport applications through the public services broker when the latter is established. In advance of this, my Department is examining the possibility of providing certain on-line passport services such as tracking the progress of applications and the completion of application forms on-line.
