Vol. 575 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Yield.

David Stanton

Question:

143 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Finance the details regarding the volume of alcopops sold here since the introduction of the increased duties; the way in which this compares with the volumes of the previous year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28087/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the total volume of alcopops – lower strength spirit-based drink with less than 5.5% alcohol – arising in the period January to September 2003 on which excise duty has been paid amounted to 374,657 litres of pure alcohol. This compares with 400,308 litres in the corresponding period in 2002, a reduction of 6.4%.
